The Bear Bryant Method Of Motivation

I’m just a plowhand from Arkansas, but I have learned how to hold a team together. How to lift some men up, how to calm down others, until finally they’ve got one heartbeat together, a team.

There’s just three things I’d ever say: If anything goes bad, I did it. If anything goes semi-good, then we did it. If anything goes real good, then you did it. That’s all it takes to get people to win football games for you.

Bear Bryant.

There is no limit to what a man can do or where he can go, if he doesn’t care who gets the credit.

The Story Of Two Old Frogs

A farmer came into town and asked the owner of a restaurant if he could use a million frog legs.

The restaurant owner was shocked and asked the man where he could get so many frog legs! The farmer replied, “There is a pond near my house that is full of frogs–millions of them. They croak all during the night and are about to drive me crazy!”

So the restaurant owner and the farmer made an agreement that the farmer would deliver frogs to the restaurant five hundred at a time for the next several weeks.

The first week, the farmer returned to the restaurant looking rather sheepish, with two scrawny little frogs. The restaurant owner said, “Well…where are all the frogs?”

The farmer said, “I was mistaken. There were only these two frogs in the pond. But they sure were making a lot of noise!”

Next time you hear somebody criticizing or making fun of you, remember it’s probably just a couple of noisy frogs.

Also remember that problems always seem bigger in the dark. Have you ever lain in your bed at might worrying about things which seem almost overwhelming — like a million frogs croaking?

Unforgiveness Is Heavy To Carry Around!

A kindergarten teacher had decided to let her class play a game. The teacher told each child in the class to bring along a plastic bag containing a few potatoes. Each potato will be given a name of a person that the child hates. So the number of potatoes that a child will put in his/her plastic bag will depend on the number of people he/she hates. So when the day came, every child brought some potatoes with the name of the people he/she hated. Some had 2 potatoes, some 3 while some up to 5 potatoes.

The teacher then told the children to carry the potatoes in the plastic bag with them wherever they go for 1 week. Days after days passed, and the children started to complain due to the unpleasant smell let out by the rotten potatoes. Besides, those having 5 potatoes also had to carry heavier bags. After 1 week, the children were relieved because the game had finally ended.

The teacher asked: “How did you feel while carrying the potatoes with you for 1 week?” The children let out their frustrations and started complaining of the trouble that they had to go through having to carry the heavy and smelly potatoes wherever they go.

Then the teacher told them the hidden meaning behind the game. The teacher said: “This is exactly the situation when you carry your hatred for somebody inside your heart. The stench of hatred will contaminate your heart and you will carry it with you wherever you go. If you cannot tolerate the smell of rotten potatoes for just 1 week, can you imagine what is it like to have the stench of hatred in your heart for your lifetime?”

Moral: Throw away any hatred for anyone from your heart so that you will not carry burden for a lifetime. Forgiving others is the best attitude to take. Negativity about someone will keep peace of your mind away from you. Remember the good things about him/her, and let go of the hatred.

What Is Number One In Your Life?

I used to work for a company as a trainer. There were four weeks training and at the end of it you got the keys to your company car.

It was a good deal since you could drive it for your personal use too.

We had a company meeting and the manager gave an old, what I call a blood and guts speech. We had a young man who had just finished training was about to get his keys the company car. This was quite an accomplishment.

The manager had emphasized that the company came first. He suggested that no matter what it took, “the job was to be done.

It sounded like the job took top priority. After the meeting the young man walked up and handed his keys to the company car to the manager and said he was quitting. The manager was dumbfounded and asked why. The young man said God is first, my church second, my family is third, and the company is so far back there I can’t even see it in my rearview mirror.

Well, I have forgotten a lot of people who came through the company training, but I’ll assure you that I never forgotten that young man. I still admire him and his principles today! We need something that we believe so strongly in that we would die for it! God has to be first and He accepts second from no one’s life!”

When Discouraged, Count Your Blessings!

Most people are not in the arena of because they don’t want to fight or get knocked down, so they spend their entire life sitting on the sidelines.

Discouragement is one of the main weapons of the enemy. It is one of the most used.

Discouragement will catch a ride with you on the way to work. If it misses you it will be there when you get there. Then it will try to catch a ride with you on your way back home.

Might I suggest to you that you make a list? Get a sheet of paper, preferably a lined sheet of paper. Draw a vertical line down the middle. On one side put everything good. Now, if you are not too ashamed on the other side of that vertical line put everything that is bad. I hope if you start with the good side first that you don’t ever make it to the bad side.

They asked George Bernard Shaw if he had his life to live over who would he like to be. He said the man he never was. I don’t even know you but I know this about you that you have the ability to do more. The very fact that God woke you up this morning means that God isn’t through with you yet. I would read the Bible through five times but it will take five years and I’m already 60 years old. Well, how old will you be in five years if you don’t read it five times?

Oliver Wendell Holmes said that most people go to their grave with their music still in them. The cemetery is richer than Fort Knox. In the cemetery are songs never sung, books never written, apologies never made and love never expressed. Someday Isle is a lonely place to be marooned. Millions of people are stuck on Someday I’ll do this that or the other.

Are You Here Or There

There was a man standing on a hill looking down on a man in the valley. The man on the hill said to himself I am here and the man in the valley is there. I don’t want to be here, I want to be there. I will just go join the man in the valley and then I can be there too!

So the man on the hill hastened to join the man in the valley, for he had always longed to be there. When he finally got to the man in the valley he was so happy he exclaimed to the man I am finally there.

The man in the valley said no my son you are here. The man on the hill said please tell me where there is so I can finally be there. The man in the valley said you see that hill you just came from? Well that is there and you are here.

So, when you long to get there in life, life will let you know you haven’t arrived.

When I get $1 million dollars, get married, get my drivers license, you think, I will finally be there. You get married and then feel like it will take a child before you are finally there. Then you think when I get this child raised and through school….. well, you get my point!

We seem to never be there because we are always here!!

Don’t Throw Pity Parties

So, you’re having a rough day—  Who and what are you comparing it to?  You woke up this morning, millions didn’t.  Did you sleep in a car last night, millions were homeless.  Did you have more good health than sickness?, so many don’t.  Do you have a bank account, food in a cabinet or refrigerator?

What to do when you are feeling sorry for yourself… Go to the hospital, nursing home, funeral home, junenile detention home (while there be glad your loved ones aren’t there).  Go visit some old folks and just listen, they don’t need you to say anything.  Have you still got your right mind?  I know several folks who don’t.  They were once smart, maybe smarter than you and me.

Pity Parties…Has anyone ever attended any you have had.  If they did I’m sure they didn’t stay long. If you have success with feeling sorry for yourself, go for it…as for me, count me out.  Even Job in the Bible, with all his troubles, was required to stand on his feet like a man.

Try to make someone else happy and  to feel important–There is not any way to make someone else happy and not get some of it for yourself.

The day you learn to get your mind off yourself long enough to think of others, is the day your life will take on a different meaning.  A life of serving others makes a very rich, fulfilling life.

Be Positive—When you get negativity out of your life, take notice how others react to you.  You’ll see a great difference!  You will never want to go back to the old way.

Play more offense and less defense…Michael Jordan remarked that too many players at the end of the game were concentrating on not losing, rather than on winning. Some are thinking so heavily on reacting, that they are not nearly proactive as they need to be.   Instead of waiting on someone else to initiate the mood (your mood), try setting the tone to the one you want.  You have a choice, don’t let anyone or anything take that from you.

How To Bury A Good Idea

It will never work,
We’ve never done it that way before.
We’re doing fine without it.
We can’t afford it.
We’re not ready for it.
It’s not our responsibility.

We have all met these Naysayers!

It seems their purpose is to tell why we can’t.

They seem to think that blowing out your candle, somehow will make theirs burn brighter.

Criticizing is the little thing to do, done by little people. Follow the bigger you and encourage rather than criticize!

Remember, you could be big if you don’t let little get a hold of you!!

Life Can Be A Pressure Cooker

Life is a pressure cooker. The pressure keeps mounting and building until you can’t take it anymore. You are ready to explode, blow up. Everywhere you turn there is pressure. The greater the pressure, the more things cook on the inside. There are pressures because there are more variables in your life. There are more people and more responsibilities. There are more people who need you than ever before.

There are more people who have your phone number, both home and cell, your email address, etc. Your world is bigger, you know more people.

External pressures you can separate from, but internal pressures are difficult …. your marriage, your children, etc. External enemies are one thing, but internal things are connected to me.

You can kill the wolf, if you don’t kill the wolf it will kill you. You can’t kill what you are connected to…. your marriage, your child, etc. The internal pressure keeps mounting and you try to say “I’m fine, I’m just fine”, but all the time you are dying on the inside. The pressure is killing you. You’d probably be shocked at the people reading this that are smiling, but on the inside, they are about to explode. The things you can’t talk about, the secrets that you have held inside for so long. All the while the pressure is building on the inside until it has reached the dangerous levels. When you are responsible people count on you, and when they count on you it brings on responsibility and pressure. We would also be surprised at the depressed people reading this.

The world has pressures and some of them kill themselves. Children of God have pressures and it kills them. We wake up tired because all night long the issues have been churning in our heads all night long. The things you can’t talk about, you can’t tell anybody. Nobody knows that your finances are bad, your marriage is strained. We have pressures and we can’t talk to anyone not even our spouses. We are too tore up, we think, to talk to God.

But talking to God is the answer. If we don’t give God some of our pressures they will become too great and overpower is!

1 Peter 5:7 Casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you.
